Delhi’s first national carrom champion- Jameel

Jameel Ahmed who is forty-seven-year-old created history in Delhi Carrom when he won the All India association Cup Carrom titles just a couple of days ago at Varanasi. It was not only his first major title in a career over three decades, but also that of the state he stand for.

Jameel, who plays for Nadeem Club, is the first player from Delhi to win the men’s singles title at a national level match in its 53-year-old history. Jameel runs a small company in Jaffarabad in east Delhi’s outskirts, but every time there is a carrom tournament, the business bear. “I don’t mind it because I am very zealous about the game,” says Jameel who start playing for Delhi in 1979.

“I am on the edge of breaking into the worldwide bracket. The Federation Cup win has brought me eight points and two more points in any national championship will see me flouting into the top four,” says the 50-time Delhi champion.

Secretary General of the Delhi Carrom society, V. D. Narayan, said Jameel’s win to his determination. “He has been doing fine all the time, but never went away from the quarter-final stage. His win against a top-flight player like Radhakrishnan is a boost up for him as well as everybody else’s in Delhi carrom,” he said.

  1. The new rules and regulation for carrom is inappropriate as it changes the original game of carrom. In my view the old rules and regulation of the carrom is more suitable than new.
