Chess World Cup Round 2

The initial day of the World Cup’s second round see quite a amount of huge upsets. Svidler lost with Black next to Nyback, Morozevich go down with the white pieces next to Laznicka, Sakaev beaten Radjabov, Ivanchuk lost to So and Inarkiev beaten Eljanov.

It was the world advantage down today in Khanty-Mansyisk. The first seven ranking favorites score only 1.5 points and big names such as Ivanchuk, Svidler, Morozevich and Radjabov are in risk of an early on knockout.

Top seed player Boris Gelfand was once more the first to conclude his match today. Besides his famed match after match approach, his policy in Khanty-Mansyisk is obvious draw with Black, try to succeed with White, and save power wherever probable. His Petroff next to Amonatov lasted immediately twelve moves, so the Israeli grandmaster obviously bets on his White game.

Zhou Jianchao played an outstanding match next to Gashimov; in a Berlin Wall the Chinese 21-year-old even play a positional swap sacrifice that kind of compulsory the draw right away when Gashimov decided to go for an finish with opposite-coloured bishops.

The third distress was Alexander Morozevich going down next to Viktor Laznicka from the Czech Republic. The world’s number 10 try to trick his challenger but Laznicka willingly fell for it he got a pawn and the bishop pair for the missing exchange, and then duly win when got a approved pawn on the queenside.

The biggest surprise maybe was the loss of Vassily Ivanchuk, the favorite to win this World Cup. It seem that the Ukrainian was totally outplaying his Pinoy challenger, but when he couldn’t discover the knockout blow he ought to almost certainly have taken the draw. Instead, in awful timetrouble previously, Chuky determined to play on but then lost in the finish.

Ernesto Inarkiev, who was a bit fortunate to be eligible in yesterday’s tie breaks next to Gustafsson, sustained very well by defeat 84 points higher rated Pavel Eljanov White powerplay in the Berlin partition this instance.

Chess World Cup Round 1

After Yu Yangyi’s astonishing achievement of yesterday, two more well-known grandmasters were eliminate by Chinese rising stars in the tie breaks today. Gabriel Sargissian missing to Li Chao and Emil Sutovsky go down next to Zhou Weiqi. Tomorrow is by now the second round and we’re gone with 64 players.

For a while it was indistinct whether the tiebreak would consist of two or four fast games, since the consequences page was presentation only R1 and R2 after the G1 and G2, follow by B1, B2 et cetera. But the regulations specify four and in the route of the day it became clear that the players certainly had to play four fast games.

David Smerdon from Australia once more showed superior chess next to 2700-GM Dominguez from Cuba; only following three more draw Dominguez manage to decide the game. When Smerdon had exposed world-class Dragon training in his initial game with black, the Cuban was more winning in a sideline in match 4.

GMs Navara and Laylo also ongoing with two draw, but then the Czech win two matches in a row. Bacrot beaten Nijboer in the first two fast games and then determined matters by drawing a rook finish with a pawn down in the third.

Naiditsch open the score in his mini match next to Hou Yifan, but the Chinese countered right away. In the third match it was the German’s turn once more, the third succeed for Black, when Hou Yifan blunder an exchange correct after the opening.

Sargissian was the second performer to be eliminate by one of the many tough young Chinese grandmasters. After both captivating two and then drawing two, Li Chao twisted out to be the strongest blitzkrieg player. It was somewhat astonishing that Sargissian went for the similar Scotch finish with Black in a must win position. Sutovsky suffer the same fate next to Zhou Weiqi a draw in the initial match was follow by two wins for the Chinese.

Cheparinov went throughout thanks to just one fast victory next to Kryvoruchko, but his friend and associate in Topalov’s side of seconds, l’Ami, was eliminate by Sasikiran. Tiviakov missing 2.5-1.5 in the rapids next to Iturrizaga .

Chess World Cup

Sergei Movsesian is the strongest performer who previously has to leave the World Cup following two days of play. After losing the initial game to Yu Yangyi, the Slovak GM was detained to a draw in the second match. Zahar Efimenko was eliminate 1.5-0.5 by Gilberto Milos; Yannick Pelletier strike Bu Xiangzhi with the similar score while Ivan Sokolov lost equally his games to Sergey Fedorchuk.

The FIDE World Chess Cup take place Nov 20th-Dec 15th in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. It’s a seven round knockout by means of six rounds of matches comprise two games per round. The last seventh round consists of four matches.

Through the second day of the World Cup the survive program went well, though we’re not too eager about the option of match viewer which is the liberated Montreux Java applet. During replay the sports event often jump to the last position, and another disadvantage of it is that it doesn’t react to the keyboard arrow keys, which we find much more suitable rapidly replaying lots of games.

Boris Gelfand, top seed at this occasion, was certainly the first to arrive at the second round because he didn’t mind too much about losing a few score points and decided to a draw at move 12.15-year-old Chinese super capacity Yu Yangyi knocked out Sergei Movsesian, who avoid theory today with a congested Sicilian with c3, but didn’t approach close to kingside assault. He had to do again moves to avoid a tragedy on the queenside.

The third shock in this initial round so far is the removal of Zahar Efimenko, who lost with the white pieces next to 46-year-old Gilberto Milos. Today the young Ukrainian reach an finish with three pawns next to a knight, but the qualified Brazilian grandmaster didn’t weaken. Bu Xiangzhi was compressed 0.5-1.5 by Yannick Pelletier, who heroically protected a very hard position with Black yesterday and then compressed his challenger today in a Grünfeld.

A nice obsession regarding the World Cup is that you obtain to see top 10 players playing next to IMs, the kind of challenger almost all of us would misplace against. The way these top GMs strike them is frequently very informative. In most cases the lower rate players can go along fairly well for sometime, but following a few hours of play they unavoidably start to make little mistakes, which are right away punished.

The third and important day begin with a small shock Carlsen lost to Ponomariov, and because Anand strike Svidler, he had previously fixed up with the Norwegian.
