CARROM
GEAR NEWS
recreational play, suitable from the novice to the experienced players and when family and friends get together for an exciting, entertaining and challenging game of Carrom. The clear satin smooth 6mm veneered water resistant plywood playing surface measures 73.5cm x 73.5cm with very good bracing under support. We have used the centre eight-point star design and the rounded internal corners, aligned along the corner pocket circumferences, that allows for accurate rebounds which are all normally found only on competition approved Carrom Boards by the Australian Carrom Federation.
The wide rosewood frame measures approx. 7.5cm x 3.75cm. is usually found on competition playing Carrom Boards, is made from the best selected seasoned timbers that have a great wood-grain appeal and is finished in a Clear Brilliant Gloss Varnish which shows off the natural wood grain. The board measures around 90cm x 90cm and comes with fitted net pockets.
The combination of a fast playing surface, competition standard Carrom coins, matching striker, hard timber frame and our technologically advanced surface powder produces fast rebounds for the striker, multiple angles to pocket more coins in just one stroke. This results in a fast, exciting, challenging game for all to enjoy.
A carrom terminology section at carrom; should not be a separate article until such time as the carrom article becomes too long per WP:SUMMARY. If this occurs, and there is enough material for a terms article, it should be at glossary of carrom terms.
A more fully-developed rules section at carrom, covering all of the “Laws of Carrom” basic, in summary – we absolutely must not copy the rules verbatim, as was done in a few cases at carrom already, as this is a copyright violation, and also violates WP:NOT (”Wikipedia is not a game guide”). Some of the aspects that should be briefly covered may include:
Standard equipment (already has a section at main article), interpretation of rules, sitting position of players, striking (already has a subsection at main article), the toss (already has a subsection at main article), trial boards, the break, turn of play, scoring and score cards (the score cards part can probably be omitted, as it has little to do with general game play, only with ICF tournament play), changing of sides (already covered somewhat in the toss section at main article), carrom-men overboard, fouls, rolling and overlapping, the queen (already has a subsection at main article, but mostly about the dimensions, not the game-play), dues and penalties maybe (this isn’t really relevant at all to the game as such, only to membership in ICF, so it should probably be omitted from the article), loss of match, protests, and of course the general rules. Each of these topics should definitely not be separate articles, unless and until such time as the main article becomes too large, per WP:SUMMARY, and the desired new sub-article actually has enough content to support an independent article.

The All India Carrom Federation has made drastic changes to the rules governing the game to make carrom more popular.
The decisions which were reached after a marathon meeting of the Working Committee at March 2 and 3, stipulate that the matches would be restricted to best of three games, of four boards or 23 points, whichever is early.
As per the new formula, a match is expected to finish in about an hour as against the earlier system in which matches stretched beyond two hours at times. Moreover, the new rule states that the ‘queen’ will carry only two points as against three earlier.
In case the scores are tied after four boards, tie-breaker and then ’sudden death’ rule will be applied. Recently, the AICF introduced the rules in a prize money tournament played among the top 20 players of the country, which was won by the reigning world champion, Yogesh Pardeshi of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB).
Effective from April 1
The secretary of the AICF, S.K. Sharma, has said that the new rules would be implemented from April 1. All the State and District Associations have also been directed to follow the new rules.
It was decided to hold residential coaching programmes for cadets, sub-junior and junior players in all the zones during the forthcoming summer vacation. These camps will be followed by two more camps during the rest of the season.
The federation has also signed agreements with two district federations to have residential academies in Varanasi and Akola (Maharashtra).
While the examination system for umpires and referees has been revised, the selection procedure for the Indian teams has been restructured.
It has been made mandatory for all State Associations to send girls and women teams for all the national championships. The AICF has served a warning that failing units would be suspended for a year, without any notice. A CD on the game and brochures are expected to be distributed to 5000 schools and colleges around the country. — Special Correspondent.

Requoting Kate Connally, VP of Addicting Games, “News events are something that really unite our culture, everyone experiences it together, so adding games into the mix of how people are experiencing major national events is just part of what we do… They’re not just a silly past time. It’s a form of social commentary.” Attuned to recent headlines, Addicting Games released Trillion Dollar Bailout earlier this month. Players are empowered to grant bail out dollars or deliver a slap in the face to troubled homeowners and corporate executives popping up requested aid. While the game’s stated aim is to give players “the chance to experience what it’s like to make a decision about who to bailout and who not to,” the simple game play doesn’t really delve into the nuances. As commentary, however, the game clearly sends a message: help averages Joes + punish high-powered executives = saved economy (+ released frustration).
