The launching ceremony of the logo and website for the first ever South Asian Port Games (SAPOG) was held at the Ceylon Intercontinental Hotel in Colombo on August 12.
SAPOG will conduct a series of sports events for employees in the Sea Ports and Air Ports in the South Asian Region in early October and Sri Lanka will host the first ever Games.
Minister of Ports, Aviation, Irrigation and Water Management Chamal Rajapaksa was the chief guest at the launching ceremony while Minister of Justice and Port Development Dilan Perera was the guest of honour.
SAPOG concept is the brain child of Chamal Rajakapsa and will be held in the host country that conducts the SAARC Summit every year.
The events to be worked out in Sri Lanka are; cricket, beach volleyball, volleyball, netball, football, hockey, carrom, billiards and table tennis.
This sports festival will be worked out with the theme of ‘Sports uniting Ports’ will be participated by over 600 sportsmen and women representing their respective sea and air ports.
